Liverpool have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of French striker Hugo Ekitike.

The Reds have been very active in the summer transfer market.

Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi have already joined, while there is a chance that Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz are expected to join in the coming days.

Wirtz is one of those deals that will take a large chunk of Liverpool’s transfer war chest.

The Reds have sent in three bids for the German international.

But all three have been rejected by the German club, who are insistent on getting a premium from the sale of their star player.

Elsewhere, Liverpool continue to be linked with a number of strikers, including Hugo Ekitike.

The 22-year-old French forward has emerged as a candidate for the striker position as it looks like Newcastle United will retain Alexander Isak after qualifying for the Champions League.

Liverpool have been linked with a potential move for the Frenchman, with reliable football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirming that the Reds’ scouts have been watching him for some time now.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg also reported that Liverpool are “seriously” in the running to sign the Eintracht Frankfurt striker.

Ekitike has enjoyed a remarkable campaign with Eintracht Frankfurt, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most promising young forwards.

The Frenchman has scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances, while contributing four goals in Frankfurt’s Europa League campaign.

His overall tally of 22 goals across all competitions has attracted attention from multiple Premier League clubs.

Chelsea have reportedly been in the lead for his signature and it was thought the Blues would wrap up the deal for the 22-year-old ahead of Liverpool.

However, the latest result from German publication BILD, has claimed that a deal between Chelsea and Ekitike is not close as widely assumed.

According to the report, the Blues are considering other strikers due to the price Frankfurt has placed on Ekitike.

The German side reportedly want €100m for the 22-year-old, and Chelsea are not willing to say that.

The report also confirmed that Liverpool also remain in the hunt for Ekitike, and the player himself is keen on the move.

“Liverpool FC remains a hot candidate in the race for Ekitiké,” BILD said.

“Both sides are very keen to see a move.

However, the Reds are yet to finalize their mega-deal with Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz (22).”
